What is Drawww?
Recently released, Drawww is an AI-assisted drawing app for iPad that lets you turn simple sketches into complex works of art in real time. Think of it as an image-generating AI like Stable diffusion that uses the inpaint option to generate results based on the image you input. What makes Drawww unique is that it's an on-device AI app that doesn't require an internet connection.
Can i use Drawww?
First of all, this app can only be installed on the latest iPad phones using the M1 chip or higher. And because of the built-in AI, the capacity is 1.2GB, which is large for an app. And the cost is 66,000 won for a year at this time, and you can use it for free for 3 days. If you are interested, you can install it when you have time and decide to purchase it.
How can draw with Drawww
When you launch Drawww, you'll see the Projects gallery, with Import and + buttons in the top right corner. Let's start by clicking the + button to create a new project.
This will pop up an input box with prompts above the UI in the Drawing space like this. You have to type in any prompt, and you can't skip this process. Instead, you can modify the prompt at any point during the drawing process. I typed in a K-pop idol and drew it, and the AI image was generated based on the prompts I typed and my sketch. I touch it once, there's a delay of about a second, and the AI image is modified.
On the right side, you have the option to select a filter, which will be reflected in the image that the AI image generates. In addition, there are additional features such as the ability to paint the background color (color wheel on the bottom right) and the ability to draw in high definition (HD on the bottom left).
My real review
There were a couple of things I was disappointed with. First, I was disappointed that I couldn't edit the images generated by the AI, which meant that I couldn't give feedback on the results, so I ended up having to draw more closely to get the results I wanted. Second, I was disappointed with the quality of the results generated, which was not up to par with the quality of AI image generators currently available online. Lastly, I was a little disappointed with the UX elements such as no alert when I clicked clear, and when I drew a series of drawings, the AI image was generated each time, so I had to wait for all the results of the AI.
But what makes Drawww so great is that it's a local AI app, so you don't need an internet connection to use it, so you can use the AI's drawing assistance in real time, which is something that other existing drawing apps don't offer, and it's very accessible for existing iPad users to use these new services without any barriers to entry. As more and more on-device AI apps emerge, I'm looking forward to seeing what new services will emerge.
