What's new? The rise of GPTs

In November 2023, OpenAI introduced GPTs, which allow you to create customized versions of ChatGPT. GPTs are a new way to customize ChatGPT to make it more useful for your daily life, specific tasks, work at home, and more. Users can easily create their own GPTs without any coding knowledge, and can choose from a variety of features, including web search, image creation, data analysis, and more.

So how does it work?

GPTplus users can click Explore in the top left corner of chatGPT and see a button called Create a GPT (Beta). Click it and you'll see the following screen, where you can tell the GPT Builder what you want your GPT to do, what it does, and how it does it, and the Builder will create the GPT for you. In Configure, you can fill in names, descriptions, instructions, and even create profile images for your GPTs.

On the right screen, you can test the GPTs that have been created. If they don't answer the way you want them to, or if you have additional requirements, you can continue to modify them by talking to Builder. In addition to simple directives, GPTs can also be configured to upload files, connect to external third-party APIs, and enable features that were previously available in chatGPT, such as Dall-e, Code Interpreter, and web browsing.

This blog post also utilized GPTs to create paragraph titles, writing style, internet research, drafting, and reflection, and I plan to use them in my future T-story blogs.

How to use various GPTs

At first glance, you might not see much difference between setting directives in an existing GPT and tuning the GPT's responses through prompt engineering. Let's take a look at some examples and what we've talked about at OpenAI. Here's a collection of publicly available GPTs. You can see GPTs created by people for different purposes, such as 20 Questions, Fake News Detection, and SEO Blog.

Another interesting use of GPTs was to create a high-quality chatbot based on the settings of an existing virtual character. Although conversations with virtual characters using AI such as Character.AI and risu.ai already existed, I think it is meaningful in terms of accessibility to create a character bot AI by easily entering character settings and character lines using GPTs.

Looking ahead

OpenAI has announced that it will be launching a GPT Store to host user-created GPTs. This will be a big step forward for chatGPT, which people have been thinking about since the introduction of plugins to chatGPT, and even before that when chatGPT first came out. Currently, there are many examples of services utilizing GPT APIs in apps or websites, but I'm guessing that in the future, it will become more popular to use other services as APIs on GPTs that someone has created.
